We live in the midst of a digital revolution age where consuming information and media via smart devices has become a part of our daily lives. Nevertheless, touch interfaces still face many issues. After touch screens began replacing physical buttons on devices, they have performed both input and output actions which have caused many errors such as unintended touch inputs from the user.

BackPad UI began resolving this problem by first setting forth a hypothetical question. The idea behind it was that people who are surrounded by strangers in a crowded subway tend to want to communicate with people they know through a smartphone. After performing research, observation, and analysis of the environment and users, a new UI for the smartphone was born that addressed the issue of touch interfaces.
