Graphic Poetry of PAR

Form Follows Theory is graphic poetry about my reflective practice on my works.

Process

I asked myself,

How do I consume information about what I want to know and share how I work? By which channel would people interact with my work?

And I found my information seeking and interaction are heavily relying on image-based online platforms — Instagram, for example.

The frame, with a pre-defined ratio and size for the platforms, becomes my canvas.

A blank canvas scares me... (and grids comfort me.)

Colors and fonts are extracted from the previous works (2008-2020) and organized in a rough order.

Then I set up the hierarchy and structure of the information.

I give meanings to the forms

... and fill them with meanings.

The greatest gains and values are farthest from being appreciated. We easily come to doubt if they exist. We soon forget them. They are the highest reality. Perhaps the facts most astounding and most real are never communicated by man to man. The true harvest of my daily life is somewhat as intangible and indescribable as the tints of morning or evening. It is a little star-dust caught, a segment of the rainbow which I have clutched.  — Henry David Thoreau, Walden

I use “-ess” to hold Theory to stay as a Form.
